Magnetization switching and inverted hysteresis in perpendicular antiferromagnetic superlattices
نویسنده
چکیده
The magnetization of antiferromagnetic (AFM) superlattices as a function of applied field was investigated using Monte Carlo simulations. The simulated hysteresis loops of systems with N magnetic layers with AFM coupling between the layers exhibit distinct steps with magnetization that decreases with increasing N. Systems with odd N exhibit 3 steps and inverted hysteresis for N> 3, whereas systems with even N exhibit 4 steps, for N> 2, and their microscopic switching sequence is non-deterministic and can take two distinct pathways, even though the switching of the global magnetization is exactly reversible.VC 2014 AIP Publishing LLC. Anomalous magnetization reversal due to proximity effect of antiphase boundaries
Here we report anomalous double switching hysteresis loop and high coercivity (∼0.1 T) in Fe3O4(110) thin films. Our analytical model based on spin chains confined within small antiphase boundary domains (APBDs) suggests a significant proximity effect of antiferromagnetic antiphase boundaries (APBs). Furthermore, the calculated domain size (D) follows the well-known scaling relation D = C√t . T...
متن کاملHow antiferromagnetism drives the magnetization of a ferromagnetic thin film to align out of plane.
Interfacial moments of an antiferromagnet are known for their prominent effects of induced coercivity enhancement and exchange bias in ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic exchange-coupled systems. Here we report that the unpinned moments of an antiferromagnetic face-centered-cubic Mn layer can drive the magnetization of an adjacent Fe film perpendicular owing to a formation of intrinsic perpendicul...
متن کاملEnhancement of perpendicular and parallel giant magnetoresistance with the number of bilayers in FeÕCr superlattices
We have correlated a detailed quantitative structural analysis by x-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and high spatial resolution electron energy-loss spectroscopy imaging, with the magnetization and anisotropic magnetotransport properties in sputtered Fe/Cr superlattices. To accomplish this, we developed a technique for magnetotransport measurements in metallic superlattices w...
متن کاملMagnetization switching by spin-orbit torque in an antiferromagnet-ferromagnet bilayer system.
Spin-orbit torque (SOT)-induced magnetization switching shows promise for realizing ultrafast and reliable spintronics devices. Bipolar switching of the perpendicular magnetization by the SOT is achieved under an in-plane magnetic field collinear with an applied current. Typical structures studied so far comprise a nonmagnet/ferromagnet (NM/FM) bilayer, where the spin Hall effect in the NM is r...
